Tiko, Cameroon — The market, which will operate every Thursday, is expected to create an organized platform for farmers, traders and buyers from Tiko Municipality and neighbouring communities to trade agricultural produce while contributing to the local economy.
The decision was reached during a meeting held at the Tiko Council on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, chaired by the Council’s Fourth Deputy Mayor, Waindim Rudolf.
The meeting brought together representatives of Zone 9 (Ebanja Quarter) and Zone 13 (Movange Quarters). It was also attended by the Tiko Council Secretary General, Mrs. Eri Ita Tatason; Chief of Human Resources, Mrs. Carolinda Bih; Local Solutions Head, Mr. Julius Sone, among other officials.
According to Fourth Deputy Mayor Waindim Rudolf, the farm market is designed to serve as a major agro-commercial hub, allowing farmers to sell their produce directly to buyers.
He said the initiative is expected to help reduce post-harvest losses, improve farmers’ incomes and strengthen agricultural trade within the municipality and beyond.
The facility is equipped with display sheds, storage facilities, parking space, toilets and security posts, providing essential amenities aimed at ensuring a safe and convenient trading environment.
Farmers and traders in Tiko have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that could reduce roadside trading and improve commercial activities along the Tiko-Douala corridor.
The Tiko Council has called on interested farmers, cooperatives and traders to contact the Council for the allocation of trading spaces ahead of the official opening.
The initiative further reinforces the Council's efforts to promote agriculture and organized commerce in the municipality. Tiko, the Gateway Municipality
