Nwa, Sub-DivisionMBEM, NWA– The 2026 edition of the prestigious Mt Majang Race was successfully held on Friday, July 3, 2026 in Mbem, Nwa Sub-Division bringing together 124 athletes from across the Sub-Division and beyond for one of the North West Region’s most celebrated mountain races.

Founded in 1998 by the late Ta Nji Majang, Bello Amos Gaben, the race continues to serve as a launchpad for athletes who later shine at the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope.

The race was presided over by Mr. Sobe Pius, Inspector of Basic Education in Nwa Sub-Division, representing the Senior Divisional Officer. The Mayor of Nwa Council was represented by Mr. Buinda Paul Also in attendance were Hon. Adamu Edward Lambert, MP for Nwa, administrative authorities, traditional rulers, and other distinguished personalities.

A good number of Fons from the Sub-Division honored the invitation of HRM Fon Ngwim Samuel of Mbemto witness the race and the accompanying Cultural Festival, underscoring the growing importance of the event in Nwa’s traditional and cultural landscape.

The Mt Majang Race is part of the Mbem Annual Cultural Week and Cultural Festival, making it a triple event. The week-long celebration ran from June 27 to July 5, 2026

The Fon described the 2026 race and festival as a success and promised that the 2027 edition will be bigger, to be hosted at the Fon’s Palace which is currently under construction.

In his closing remarks, HRH Fon Ngwim Samuel thanked the people for coming far and near to celebrate their culture. He commended villagers for their trust and collaboration in the development of Mbem.

The importance of the Mt Majang Race was underlined as far back as 2000 when the then Minister of Sports and Physical Education,Ismaël Bidoung Mkpatt now Minister of Arts and Culture, attended the event in Mbem.
