Victims of flood in Kumba 2 Sub-Division

KumbaKUMBA – Floodwaters hit Nshiemien Quarter, Fiango in Kumba II Sub-Division, Meme Division, South West Region, on Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 17, 2026 leaving residents scrambling to save property as water swept through parts of the quarter.

According to residents, the flooding came rapidly and caught many people unprepared. Several homes and compounds were affected, with belongings submerged in muddy waters.

Cause of the Flooding

The Quarter Head, Nkume Techa Peter Shumbang, told Pinnacle Times that drainage channels were quickly overwhelmed. He attributed the problem to an incomplete bridge on Farm Road Street, saying its current state blocks the natural flow of water and diverts it into residential areas.

Residents Cry for Help

Residents described the situation as frightening. Movement around the quarter became difficult as the floodwater rose. Many families spent the night moving valuables to safer places, while others sought higher ground and assistance from neighbors.

Some residents said flooding has been affecting their community for years, forcing some to abandon their homes for rented apartments elsewhere.

The population of the affected area has launched an appeal to Hon. Tabot Lawson Bakia Member of Parliament for Kumba Urban Constituency, to come to their rescue, alleging that the municipal council has neglected them.
