Water has not droped from most taps in Fomenky and Upper Alaska for two years. This picture is for illustrative purpose.

Kumba, Cameroon — Residents of Fomenky Street and part of Alaska street in Kumba I municipality have expressed frustration over a prolonged water crisis, saying they may withdraw their support for the ruling CPDM party if authorities fail to restore regular water supply to the neighbourhood.

The inhabitants say they have endured about two years without reliable access to potable water, forcing families to struggle daily to meet their basic water needs.

“We will not support CPDM if you don’t provide water to Fomenky Street,” some residents told Pinnacle Times, calling on the authorities to urgently address the situation.

The residents are appealing to local authorities and the relevant water authorities to intervene and restore a dependable water supply to the area.

Only privileged few are able to acess water through boreholes.

Inhabitants have appealed to the MP of Kumba Urban constituency Hon. Tabot Lawson to intervene just as he did to other quarters in the city of Kumba.

“We plead with the MP to intervene in our situation. We have seen his interventions in other quarters across Kumba, and we are also within his constituency,” residents said, appealing for urgent action to address the prolonged water crisis.

It should be noted that Fomenky Street and Upper Alaska street are situated in Kumba I municipality where Barrister Prince Eseme Moses Esembe is Mayor, and the city mayor Gregory N. Mewanu who all assumed leadership of the councils through the CPDM ticket.
