Kumba III Mayor Dr. Mukwelle Nguba Isaac fulfils promise as transformer installation begins

Residents of Mundame Village in Kumba III Sub-Division, Meme Division, South West Region, are set to enjoy electricity for the first time as installation work has officially begun.

The milestone development is courtesy of the Mayor of Kumba III Council, Dr. Mukwelle Nguba Isaac.

JUBILATION AS WORKERS ARRIVE:

There was jubilation in the village over the weekend when workers of SOCADEL arrived and started mounting a giant transformer in Mundame.

The village, with an estimated population of over 10,000 inhabitantswho have long depended on solar, generators and lamps, will henceforth enjoy full-time electricity supply.

CHIEF, POPULATION EXPRESS GRATITUDE: Speaking to Pinnacle Times, HRM Chief Ngoh Richard Esapa of Mundame expressed the village’s appreciation.

"We the people of Mundame and its environs are so grateful to see this giant move by the Lord Mayor of Kumba III Council, Dr. Mukwelle Nguba Isaac, and his team, who have been working tirelessly to see that light is extended to Mundame village and its environs, from Three Corners Fiango Kumba through Malende, to us" he said.

The traditional ruler added that although houses are yet to be connected, residents are encouraged by the speed of work.

"We are seeing the work going on heavily and at a comfortable speed. In no distant time our village will enjoy electricity. Thanks to Kumba III Council, thanks to the Lord Mayor, Dr. Mukwelle Nguba Isaac," Chief Esapa stated.

MUNDAME: A HISTORIC VILLAGE

Chief Esapa recalled the historic significance of Mundame.

“Mundame is an old-age village. Very old village. We have hosted names like Dr. Zintgraff and his team, other allies from Germany, Britain. This is where we used to have the lighter that transported cocoa from Meme Division to Douala, and ferried finished products like sardine, salt, groundnut oil from Douala to Mundame before being distributed in Meme,” he recounted.

“So Mundame will enjoy light this time around, thanks to the effort of the Lord Mayor. The people are jubilating and happy to see that light is coming to us. Since creation, we have been using lamps, generators, and solar items to light our homes,” he concluded.

The Chief also thanked the Mayor for solar streetlights donated last year and appealed for more panels to be installed.

The electrification project is expected to boost economic activities, education and security in Mundame and surrounding communities.
