Brave Media to train 120 youth, women journalists on fact checking, countering misinformation, disinformation

CameroonBrave media an international media consortium, in their continuous effort in supporting independent media worldwide will in the days ahead train 120 youth and women journalists on fact checking , countering misinformation and disinformation and above all launch the Cameroon Media Watch Fact Checking Platform, to better enhance ethical journalism and professional standard reporting. This is the outcome of a one - day Regional training of youth and women journalists that took place on Saturday July 25, 2026 in Kumba, chief town of Meme Division, South West Region of Cameroon, under the project : voices for Freedom, Strengthening Media Resilience and Civic Participation in Cameroon.

Welcoming participants at the training, the field Assistant for Meme Brave Media project, Vagoga Mary Salle, remarked that, the training is thanks to it project owner, Fondation Hirondelle and partners including Cameroon Community Media Network, CCMN, BBC Media Action and co funded by the European Union. As per the overview of the BRAVE program, project objectives, expectation and training objectives, Vagogo Mary Salle, hinted, that, the program is aimed at promoting fundamental freedoms and strengthening Civic and Political Space in Cameroon by fostering independent , pluralistic resilient media that empowers youth, women and underserved.

The BRAVE Media field Assistant disclosed that, the project implementation outputs includes training 120 youth and women journalists, establish and equip 5 regional media labs, produce 50 radio programs and podcasts, launch the Cameroon Media Watch fact checking platform and organize 10 civic dialogue forum.

Participants were drilled on Ethical Journalism and professional standards, peace journalism and sensitive reporting, fact checking , verification techniques, and countering , misinformation and disinformation and digital journalism, mobile reporting and multimedia storytelling .

The resource persons for the training that was interjected by practical exercises on analyzing news stories using conflict sensitive reporting principles and developing and presenting story ideas included media consultant Innocent Yuh, who also serves as Editor - in - Chief of Kingdom Radio Kumba and Talla Aghaa Christopher Esq, a communicator for over a decade. Reacting to the knowledge acquired Rolantine Engwari , journalist with Ocean City Radio, Kumba, hailed BRAVE Media for the opportunity, launched a fervent appeal to the organisers for more of such thought provoking and insightful training and promised to match words with action in the line of duty. Nkamkeu Ange Auryole of Mutation quotidien and Kingdom Radio, Kumba on her part left the seminar well grounded on the themes of the workshop.
