Kumba,CameroonResidents of Graceland, Block IV, in Kumba II Sub-Division have been battling severe flooding for the past three days, with several households forced to abandon their homes after persistent heavy rains.

Among those affected is Gamnje Mirabel, a widow whose wooden house was inundated following torrential rains on Wednesday and Thursday, July 8 and 9, 2026. She says the flooding has left her property submerged and destroyed household belongings.

According to Mirabel, the situation worsens every time it rains, making life difficult for her family.

Residents of the neighbourhood attribute the recurring floods to poor drainage around a bridge constructed by the council Kumba II council several years ago. They argue that the structure has obstructed the natural flow of water, leaving surrounding homes vulnerable during heavy rainfall.

The bloc leader, Ndimbie Ivo, described the condition of the bridge and drainage system as an emergency requiring immediate intervention. He appealed to council authorities to rehabilitate the waterways and implement lasting flood-control measures to prevent further destruction.

As of the time of filing this report, Gamnje Mirabel and several other affected residents had sought temporary shelter elsewhere while waiting for floodwaters to recede.

Graceland is not the only community affected. Flooding has also been reported in Malabo Quarter and New Quarter in Kumba I Sub-Division, raising fresh concerns over the city's drainage infrastructure as the rainy season intensifies.
