Ekona women protecting against drug trade

Ekona, CameroonDressed in black, hundreds of mothers and young girls took to the streets of Ekona Mbenge in Muyuka Subdivision on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, to protest the growing problem of drug abuse in their community. The demonstrators expressed concern over the widespread use of substances such as Afofo, marijuana, tramadol, cocaine, “Mbanga,” “Thailand,” and other illicit drugs, which they say are destroying the future of many young people in Ekona.

They urged government authorities, traditional leaders, and the wider community to take decisive action to curb the alarming trend.

The protest forms part of a broader anti-drug campaign gaining momentum across communities in Cameroon’s South West Region, where residents are mobilizing to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and encourage collective efforts to protect the younger generation.
