Kumba, CameroonSOUTH WEST REGION CAMEROON – The municipal Councils of Konye, Eyumojock, Alou and Dikome-Balue are the first beneficiaries in the South West Region of President Paul Biya’s FCFA 50 billion THIMO project for Women and Youth.

A 22-member management committee to pilot the project in Konye Sub-Division, Meme Division, was installed on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at the Konye Business Center by the Divisional Officer, Attah Moses Ndep.

The project, also known as “Cash for Work”, falls under the Adaptive Social Safety Nets and Economic Inclusion Project. About 1,000 persons have been earmarked to benefit in Konye for a period of 60 days.

The committee comprises the D.O as Honorary Chair, the Mayor of Konye Council, Dr. Barrister Musima George Lobe as Chairman, a Secretary, 10 traditional rulers, 2 women representatives, 2 youth representatives, and 2 clergy

Also present at the ceremony were a representative of the Brigade Commander, implementing partners, municipal councilors, elites, traditional rulers, and a cross-section of the population.

While commissioning the committee, D.O Attah Moses Ndep described the project as the first of its kind in the Sub-Division. He urged members to select beneficiaries who are willing to contribute to the development of the area and called on the population to collaborate for smooth implementation. He further expressed hope that the project would be extended to the hinterlands.

For his part, Mayor Dr. Musima George Lobe said it was a great delight for Konye to be chosen for the Head of State’s initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and employment, especially for women and youth. He pledged to ensure the project is materialized and thanked President Biya for selecting Konye.

About the THIMO Project , Mr. Ndi Emmanuel, General Supervisor of the project, explained that beneficiaries will receive FCFA 1,500 daily after work. He noted that 4 Councils in the South West Region were selected out of 31 to benefit from this phase.

Other components of the project also exist, and interested persons must be between 18 and 60 years to qualify.

The meeting was convened following Ministerial Circular No. 00003421/MINEPAT/CAB of July 7, 2026 from the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development.

This rollout follows President Biya’s February 10, 2026 Youth Day address, in which he promised a more dynamic and inclusive program for women and youth, backed by a FCFA 50 billion package to improve living standards.
