POLITICS SHOULD NEVER STAND IN THE WAY OF DEVELOPMENT.
Jeremi Romi reflects on development and politics

Yaoundé, Cameroon — One of the greatest enemies of Community Development is the Belief that only CERTAIN People SHOULD be ALLOWED to BRING PROGRESS. A Community that decides who can carry out Development Projects based on Political Affiliation, personal interests, or family connections is unknowingly delaying its own future. Sadly, this happens in many places. Some Politicians and influential individuals want every Development initiative to bear their name. They fear that if a young leader, an independent citizen, or someone perceived as an opponent undertakes a meaningful project, the people will appreciate and celebrate that person. Instead of supporting every good initiative, they see Development as a Political contest. The result is obvious: capable people are discouraged, brilliant ideas are abandoned, and opportunities for growth are lost. Meanwhile, those given the responsibility simply because of loyalty or friendship often lack the capacity or commitment to deliver. The biggest loser is the community.
Development is not about who receives the applause. It is about improving lives. A good road does not ask who built it. A modern school does not care about Political colours. A health centre serves everyone equally. Great leaders do not fear the success of others. They encourage it because they understand that every successful project moves the entire community forward. Our communities must stop asking, "Who is bringing this project?" and start asking, "Will this project improve the lives of our people?" If the answer is Yes, then every genuine effort deserves support. Let us reject politics of exclusion, tribalism, jealousy, and favoritism. Let us Embrace UNITY, Competence, and Collective Responsibility. A community grows faster when everyone is given the Opportunity to Contribute. Development has no Political Party. Progress belongs to everyone.
What is your opinion? Should community development be Influenced by Politics, or should every genuine initiative be welcomed regardless of who brings it? Share your thoughts in the comments.
