Tiko, Cameroon — The Tiko Council in Fako Division on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, hosted a Constituent General Assembly to initiate the establishment of a Municipal Committee for the Participatory Management of Water Points in Tiko Municipality.
The one-day workshop, held at the Tiko Council Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., was organized by the South West Regional Coordination of the Dynamique Citoyenne Network.
The initiative seeks to strengthen community participation in the management, sustainability and governance of water points across the municipality.
The gathering brought together representatives of the Tiko Council, traditional authorities, quarter heads, existing Water Management Committees and village committees, among other stakeholders.
Discussions centered on the importance of greater community involvement in managing water facilities, with particular emphasis on ensuring their sustainability, proper use and effective governance.
Participants also explored mechanisms for strengthening collaboration between local communities, municipal authorities and other stakeholders to improve the management of water points throughout Tiko Municipality.
A key outcome of the meeting was the initiation of the process to establish a Municipal Committee that will coordinate participatory management of water points and provide a platform for cooperation among communities, local authorities and relevant partners.
The proposed committee is expected to promote greater accountability, community ownership and sustainability in the management of water resources. It will also encourage residents to take greater responsibility for protecting and maintaining water facilities within their communities. During the session, Tiko Council Mayor, HRH Dr. Peter Ikome Mesoso III, was represented by the Fourth Deputy Mayor, Mr. Waindim Rudolf.
The initiative is expected to provide a more coordinated approach to water-point management while giving communities a stronger voice in decisions affecting their access to and management of water resources.
