Kumba, CameroonAfter the recent floods that hit some neighbourhoods in Kumba I, II and III subdivisions, the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Meme Division, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong, has created a commission to assess the aftermath.

According to directives, the commission aims at ascertaining human and material damages; identifies localities and persons affected; identifies state structures such as bridges, schools, public offices, and other institutions affected and in need of rehabilitation; proposes lasting preventive measures; and brainstorms on ways to succor affected families.

The itinerary of the commission will take it to Kumba I Subdivision on Wednesday, August 12; Kumba II on Thursday, August 13; and Kumba III on Friday, August 14, 2026.

As Chairperson of the commission, the SDO urges the population of Kumba, especially the affected areas, to fully collaborate for the successful outcome of the exercise.

The assessment comes a week after the devastating incident on Wednesday, August 5, rendered families homeless, destroyed properties and businesses across the city of Kumba.

The gesture serves as a welcome relief to those affected, hoping to get support from the government of Cameroon and its partners.

It will also enable the State to evaluate if the affected areas are habitable and measures to avert future occurrences.
