Sample of pavement blocks manufactured by Nkambe council
Nkambe, Donga/Mantung Cameroon — The innovative project highlights how plastic waste, often regarded as an environmental burden, can be transformed into a valuable resource that supports community development. The pavement blocks produced through the initiative are designed for use in the construction of walkways, markets, schools, public spaces, and other community infrastructure.
By manufacturing the blocks locally, the council is expected to reduce construction costs while improving the quality and durability of public infrastructure.
Beyond infrastructure development, the project contributes to cleaner surroundings by reducing plastic pollution and promoting effective waste management. It is also expected to create employment opportunities, encourage residents to participate in waste collection and recycling, and foster a culture where plastic waste is seen as a resource rather than refuse. The initiative reflects Nkambe Council's commitment to innovation, environmental conservation, and sustainable development, offering a practical model that other local councils across Cameroon can replicate.
Mayor Musa Shey Nfor and the Nkambe Council have been commended for championing an initiative that turns waste into wealth while investing in a cleaner environment, stronger infrastructure, and a more sustainable future for the people of Nkambe.
Nkambe should be noted, have conservatively retained the position of cleanest town in the Northwest Region.
